United By Beer 2020

Introducing our 2nd Annual NYC Pride Collaboration with The Center

united by beer three cans

United By Beer is back!

For the second year in a row, we are excited to partner with New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center) to brew United By Beer (ABV: 6.5%), a collaboration beer celebrating NYC Pride. The Center, one of New York City's foremost advocates for the LGBTQ community, will receive 100% of proceeds from beer sales.

"At Five Boroughs Brewing Co., we are committed to brewing beer for all New Yorkers and building a beer community that celebrates everyone for who they are," said Blake Tomnitz, co-founder and CEO of Five Boroughs. "United By Beer is an example of the type of substantive action necessary to construct that diverse coalition of craft beer drinkers. We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with The Center again and look forward to supporting and amplifying the vital work that they do for LGBTQ New Yorkers."

That vital work is particularly important right now as our country faces challenges on multiple fronts. The Center's powerful and actionable response to the COVID-19 crisis and their unwavering solidarity with the Black and Black Trans communities resonates with us, and serve as a reminder of the impact an organization can have when it meets the present moment using all of its available resources.

“The Center is proud to partner with Five Boroughs Brewing Co. in honor of Pride to remind all who support the LGBTQ community that together, we are stronger, and we can create lasting change that is sorely needed right now," said Glennda Testone, Executive Director of The LGBT Community Center. "This support helps us continue to offer our vital programs and services remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and engage community members in social justice and race equity actions through our advocacy program."

This year's iteration of United By Beer is a Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA and features a brand new recipe. A powerful Galaxy dry hop generates notes of citrus, passionfruit, and peach, while Amarillo and Citra additions add waves of tropical fruit flavor. Flaked oats are the malt bill's focal point and add a smooth, full-bodied dimension to the beer. The beer also features a new label, designed by the incredibly talented Kevin Valente, who previously created the can art for 45th Street, Cash Only, and How Did We Get Here?

"I am so elated to have collaborated with Five Boroughs on this year’s United By Beer label," said Valente. "The Center is such an important institution in the New York LGBTQ community, and as an openly gay man, I am honored to have lent my artistic skills to a project that will further their outreach. Every year the anniversary of the Stonewall riots reminds us to be proud, to stand tall against the injustices of the world, and to celebrate the diverse beauty of our community. Amidst the many cancelled Pride celebrations, I hope United by Beer will remind us all to shine brightly, to love each other, and that even if we can’t march together in solidarity, we can at least share a beer knowing that it will help better our community"
